About the Artist

The landscape paintings of Lee Chabot stretch the bounds of historic linear perspective, by rendering a gradation of spatial animations influenced by both Cubism and Abstract Expressionism. Chabot's paintings dive deep into the picture plane, while providing multiple perspectives and point of view. This stylistic quality is the hinge upon which all other artistic elements hang. Chabot possesses a wonderful sense for color that dominates these partially panoramas and keep the eye in motion with numerous curves and darting lines.

“Think of Giogio de Cherico's piazzas seen through the curvilinear strokes of Marc Chagall...”

Wide flattened horizons become rich densities of abstracted architecture, providing a treat for the eyes as well as a focus for the mind. Think of Giogio de Cherico's piazzas seen through the curvilinear strokes of Marc Chagall, who once said, "great art picks up where nature ends." Yet Chabot doesn't seem to be looking for the end of nature, only points of contact where light and surface join, creating a unique and distinctive style.

Interior and exterior spaces are cracked open and pierced back together with an eye for design and ingenuity. His exuberant palette is bright and charming with brushstrokes that add a particular vitality to the image, decidedly sculptural and wonderfully alive.

Evidenced in all his work is a love of drawing. His impressionist urges of intuitive, modulated color are rebuffed with bold strokes that divide the picture plane into orchestrations of complex movement. Chabot's style tells the story of a place, communicating with us a way that words alone cannot. "Since early childhood," he explains, "I have been fascinated by what perspective and line do to create a visual narrative."
